GDF-8, commonly known as Myostatin, is a naturally occurring myokine belonging to the transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) superfamily. Mechanism of Action:
GDF-8 is synthesized and secreted by skeletal muscle cells as an inactive precursor, which is later cleaved to produce the bioactive mature dimer. Once active, it binds to Activin Type II receptors (ActRIIA and ActRIIB), triggering SMAD2/3 signaling that suppresses myoblast proliferation and differentiation.
